can we create a ps files with transparent back ground from any other forms of images? whether convert -transparent-color option will work for ps files also?

making transparent ps files using convert
Dear users,
The transparency of the gif/png images are loosing when we convert the image to a ps file using convert command. Is there any way to retain the transparent background for ps files.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
