Thanks a lot snibgo. I was only looking at the exif data (which shows orientation 1) , didn't realise that the file has XMP meta data attached too (with Rotate 270CW).

auto-orient option in some images is resulting in incorrect orientations. Is anyone else facing the same issue? I am using the latest version of ImageMagick (6.9.1-4)[ Built it from source] Issue can be reproduced using the provided image and run convert <Image> -auto-orient <image_new_name> Image ...
