Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

I'll look into it, but that makes sense. Chances are the effect can't be totally reversed.

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Sorry for making the issue so complicated, but here's some new information: VueScan actually has TWO 64-bit RGBI output options -- either a normal TIFF or a "raw" TIFF. So I just tried scanning a slide and saving it in each of these formats. In Windows Photo Viewer, the raw TIFF looks darker than ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Your extracted image works in VueScan (raw-from-vuescan_fred_combined_L1_extracted.tif). And when I use the same extraction command on your raw-from-vuescan_fred_combined.tif file, the output file also works in VueScan. But when I try your extraction command on one of my already-combined tiffs, the ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

I do have Photoshop, and I tried what you suggested. I opened raw-from-vuescan.tif, saved it as another tiff, and opened that in VueScan. No problems there. The infrared clean works just fine on the new file. A few days ago I already tried adding/removing the "VueScan 9 x64 (9.5.67)" and it didn't ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

If you happen to be interested, you can download the trial of VueScan and see for yourself exactly what I'm talking about, and you can try the dust cleaning yourself and see if it works. It's about 10 MB. https://www.hamrick.com/download.html

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Well, your example is outputting the first layer with the alpha from the second layer, right? I don't need the first "page" in the tiff, only the second. Sorry if I'm missing something. At any rate, your file (http://www.fmwconcepts.com/misc_tests/example_im_2.tif) doesn't work in VueScan. It's a ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Thanks for trying again. My problem has nothing to do with layer 1 of the tiff though, so we can totally ignore and discard layer 1. Here's exactly what I'm trying to do: 1. Extract only layer 2 from the two-layer tiff into a new tiff. 2. Take the new tiff and "fix" the alpha channel so my third ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

There's not another tool I've successfully used for this. I'll either keep the slides as-is or rescan them. Thanks for the valiant effort!

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Your example1_im.tif file has the same issue in VueScan, where it's too transparent.

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

No, because like I said, the problem file is "raw-extracted-with-imagemagick.tif." This is the file that needs to open in VueScan without problems. EDIT: I'll repost the link to this tiff: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9eUF3WCwbStVkkwQmlxWVNQbEE/view This file was "messed up"/changed in IM, and ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

I just downloaded it and looked at it in VueScan, and it looks fine.

I have libtiff 4.0.6.

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

ImageMagick version 6.9.3-Q16. I'm on Windows 10 x64 and I don't know how to get the libtiff version. To clarify, I'm trying to restore the "raw-extracted-with-imagemagick.tif" file to be identical to the "raw-from-vuescan.tif" file. So I don't need to do anything to "raw-from-vuescan.tif"; this ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Update: Now when I try to open any of my ImageMagick-converted slides in VueScan, I can do infrared clean. Previously I must have simply opened the wrong test file in VueScan, or made some mistake in ImageMagick or a VueScan setting. I'm not sure! (Maybe a little confused, though... I hope there ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

Here's the exiftool output for both files: http://pastebin.com/3Nu5wUGN Please scroll to the bottom to see the differences between the files. Yesterday I tried using exiftool to copy all metadata from the original to the copy, as you said, but it didn't fix the problem. Maybe I didn't do the right ...

Re: Extract RGBI image from multipage TIFF

I tried to recap and rephrase my issue below. Please read carefully, and thanks in advance. :) Here's one scanned image I outputted from VueScan (slide scanning software). It is outputted as a 64-bit "RGBI" image. That is, RGB + infrared channel (infrared representing dust in the scanned slide). I ...
