Sorry... rookie mistake... was in a hurry to get out of the office. I am using verion 6.38.9-9 on Ubuntu 16.04.02 The images are from various sources, however I clean them up for my purposes in Inkscape and save as a plain SVG. I have been using convert to change svg images to xpm for compiling in an application. When using an svg with solid colours, the transparency is preserved just fine, but it seems that if there is a gradient colour defined in the svg, convert first draws a white background, then the gradient on top ...
