Dongrading to GhostScript 9.23 resolves the issue. Did this by installing the RPM package for OpenSUSE Leap 15 from here: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.0/repo/oss/x86_64/ Not sure if this is a bug in Ghostscript, or just an compatibility issue between Ghostscript and ImageMagick ...
