ImageMagick-6.8.6-9-Q16-x86-dll.exe not a valid win32 app

Post by ctbrown24 »

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this. I'm trying to install ImageMagick-6.8.6-9-Q16-x86-dll.exe on a 32-bit windows XP machine with SP3, but I keep getting a message saying that it isn't a valid win32 application. I would think that someone would have noticed this before me if it was actually a problem. I'm guessing there's something wrong with my machine configuration. I've got the 2010 Visual C++ Redistributable package, so I doubt that's the problem. If I had to guess, I'd say the machine probably needs a Windows hotfix, but sadly, it has no internet access. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks,

You got it from http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binar ... hp#windows I suppose?

I've just tried it in Windows 7, and it installs with no problem. I install from an ordinary user account, so the first thing it did was ask for Admin privileges.

Perhaps your download is corrupted. I suggest you try it again. Failing that, it could be an XP problem, as you suggest. You might try the portable version, which is just a zip file.

Hi snibgo,
Thank you so much! I used the portable version and added the file path to my Path variable and that worked like a charm. It must have just been the installer file that my machine didn't like. I still think there's something wrong with my machine, but at least I'm in business for now.

Thanks a million,
