Correct behavior in 6.8.9.7:

zx2c4@thinkpad ~ $ identify -format '%m\n' ~/postscriptfile.eps
PS

Incorrect behavior in 6.8.9.8:

zx2c4@thinkpad ~ $ identify -format '%m\n' ~/postscriptfile.eps
PNG

We can reproduce the problem you posted and have a patch in ImageMagick 6.8.9-10 Beta, available by sometime tomorrow. Thanks.
