Restore color?

Post by basiliskus »

I have a digitised video from an old video-8 tape. Unfortunately the red component of the clip is missing :( . I have converted the video into still images (png's, 45'000 of them).
I know that missing episodes of Dr. Who have been processed from b&w to colour videos, so it is possible to colourise b&w material.
How would I go about to reconstruct the red component out of the remaining green and blue using ImageMagick?

Thanks fo any suggestions.

For a useful reply you would need to upload an image to some online hosting for people to download and try different options. You will also need to supply the details of your operating system, preferred language and Imagemagick version.

Thanks, Bonzo.

Operating system is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
ImageMagick 6.7.7-10 2014-03-06 from ubuntu repos.
Language??? system-locale en-au, personal: english, german and french.
Sample images are at http://www.sutter.id.au/restore-color/

There are some images in the clip which for unknown reasons have the red channel info. See http://www.sutter.id.au/restore-color/image-011295.png.

More images are available on request.

Thanks for your help
