ImageMagick upgrade issues on solaris 10 sun4v sparc sun4v

Questions and postings pertaining to the usage of ImageMagick regardless of the interface. This includes the command-line utilities, as well as the C and C++ APIs. Usage questions are like "How do I use ImageMagick to create drop shadows?".

ImageMagick upgrade issues on solaris 10 sun4v sparc sun4v

Post by naveen800 »

Hi,
This is Naveen Ramakrishnan from McGraw-hill Education.

We use OpenText MediaManagement 7.2.1 (OTMM) and part of the product for Image transformation we use ImageMagick (ImageMagick 6.7.6-5 ).

Issues - When we try to import the 16bit Tiff files it was not getting transformed on current ImageMagick version, so we tried to upgrade the 6.9 version. But for some reason it was not getting upgrading (it fails with the conversion error). After contacting with application version OTMM they suggested to contact you. Please let me know how to proceed.

OS version - SunOS ew1segu5676 5.10 Generic_148888-05 sun4v sparc sun4v

Thanks,
Naveen

Is your instance of ImageMagick supporting TIFF? To find out, type
  • convert -list format
you should get these tags:
  • TIFF* TIFF rw+ Tagged Image File Format (LIBTIFF, Version 4.0.4)
TIFF64* TIFF rw- Tagged Image File Format (64-bit) (LIBTIFF, Version 4.0.4)
If not, ImageMagick was built without TIFF support. You will need to install the TIFF development library and rebuild ImageMagick:
  • cd ImageMagick-6.9.3
    ./configure
Check the output near the end of this script. Does it mention that TIFF was validated? If not, fix the problem as detailed in config.log and try again. Once the script shows TIFF as being supported, build ImageMagick and install. You should be able to read / write TIFF with ImageMagick.

If we change the tiff file from 16bit to 8bit version, it works fine.

Post a URL to your image so we can download and inspect it. If it works for us under Linux, it is likely an endian issue.

If not proprietary, you can upload to any free hosting service such as dropbox.com and paste the URL here. If proprietary, Magick will provide an offline address

I tested and it did download fine and opens fine in Photoshop and other viewers. But Magick will need to test it for your Solaris issue.

You might consider upgrading your libtiff (and Imagemagick?), since your version is older than what Magick listed. But you can wait for him to answer.

We can read your image without any problems with ImageMagick 6.9.3-0, the current release, under Linux. We're also using libtiff 4.0.4. Does magick/magick-baseconfig.h define MAGICKCORE_HAVE_TIFFISBIGENDIAN? ImageMagick calls this method to determine which endian to use. You can try upgrading both packages to fix the problem. Unfortunately we do not have access to a Solaris system so we cannot be of further help.

Sorry for the delay,
Can you please provide the steps to upgrade two packages? Just want to confirm these two packages right?

libtiff 4.0.4
magick/magick-baseconfig.h

Thanks,
Naveen
