Why am I getting colors for 4 channels from a png image?

Don't PNG images only have 3 color channels?

e.g., #EDEDE9E9E1E1

identify -ping -format \"%w %h %k %b\" $tmp_fp_file

I found what was causing the problem; but don't understand why.

I had a crop staement before the histogram

"convert $tmp_fp_file -crop 50x0+200+0 histogram:", $histo_array
