Shadows...please help

Questions and postings pertaining to the usage of ImageMagick regardless of the interface. This includes the command-line utilities, as well as the C and C++ APIs. Usage questions are like "How do I use ImageMagick to create drop shadows?".

-shadow does not add a shadow to an image, just creates the shadow that you can then add (underlay) to the image.
It is designed specifically for images with transparency. That is shaped images, whch is whay it is the way it is.

Also you can NOT save the results to JPG which does not allow transparency, until you have flattened the results onto a background (or other image).
