make: Nothing to be done for `all'. ??

im trying to install image magik on my 1and1 server to use with my gallery2 installs. i followed the directions here http://www.faq.1and1.com/scripting_lang ... ell/9.html

when i get to the command "make" I get "make: Nothing to be done for `all'."
Is that whats supposed to happen?

I then proceed to the next/last command and type "make all" and get this

that wasn't the problem. still getting errors and no response to the "make" command

i have been struggling with this for awhile. could some one please help me

Does not look like you downloaded anything to compile!!!!
Especailly in 'htdocs'! which sounds like doumentation, not source code.

I'm not sure exactly what you are saying. I deleted everything before htdocs. Thats not the full directory.

Forget what I said. The nothing to make in htdocs is fine, as there really is nothing for make to build in there.

Your real problem is libtool.

I think some of your library are not in the places expected by libtool whcih checks the text files with the suffix '.la' to make sure libraries are located where they were built to be located in.

Basically the libraries have moved around and it is confusing the hell out of the build process.

PS: I would not trust that source of build documentation! Look at the offical IM Web site for build notes.

I am having the same problem. Did you figure this out? I e-mailed 1and1. They said they would get back to me in 24hours, and that was 24hours ago?

No. I have been struggling with this install for over a year so I have once again given up. If you figure this out please do share what you do cause I would really like to be able to have a gallery on my server =(

I contacted 1and1.com support with this question last night and was told:

Regarding this one, we are not allowed to make changes to [for] our customers. What we can do is guided you through the process. [however...] Basically installation of 3rd party application is already out of our scope of support. You may wish to contact their support. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

I just want to get IM installed with Ghostscript so I can thumbnail PDF files. It works fine out of the box with most web hosts.
