convert rose: rose.jpg
convert rose: rose.gif
IM 6.4.1-3 Q 16

identify -format "%b" rose.gif

IM 6.4.1-5 Q 16 HDRI
identify -format "%b" logo.jpg
33572
identify -format "%b" logo.gif
68750
Note: file sizes are different between 6.4.1-3 and 6.4.1-5
However, these latter appear more correct. Using my computer file size information, I get 33193 for the jpg and 68750 for the gif.
convert logo.jpg -format "%b" info:
0
convert logo.gif -format "%b" info:
0
Note zero file size reported using convert syntax rather than identify syntax
I have not tested this in IM 6.4.1-5 Q16 non-HDRI.
Please verify if you would. I am on Mac OSX Tiger PPC.
