Newbie: create gradient text

Which command create gradient with 2 colors, 3 colors or 4 colors?

The top few pages of BOTh columns of IM Usage Examples, are probably the most important.

Afetr that it starts getting more specific, but still a good thing to peruse and read, You can get lots of ideas.

Thank you very much.
I'm manager of project developing web-based tool (php+ AS + flex) as same as gradient editor in PS CS3. But I know nothing
about image proseccing and only know about gradient in powerpoint 2003 :D
Now I must learn quicky. If I don't bother you, I will send you mail for receiving technical advice from you also.
You are my teacher. I'm just a newbie :)
