is it possible to modify/insert path data?

Hello,
I have been able to extract svg path data from a path that was created in photoshop. However, i would like to modify that path data and save it back to the image. Is this possible? The reason i need to do this is because when i trim an image (which is an awesome IM feature), the path data doesn't get updated. So i need to somehow manually update that data and re-insert it into the image.
