Apparently so. Its possible libgs has libJPEG built right into it.

I can confirm that compiling 6.4.9-4 with "--without-gslib" fixes all the crashes I mentioned above.
Still, I am curious why libgs would cause a crash for jp2 when libgs isn't compiled against jasper.
