same results as photoshop save for web... possible?

Try using -thumbnail instead of -resize or add -strip to your command. This will remove the EXIF data.

Also "JPEG medium" sounds like photoshop uses a low JPEG quality setting.

Try adding a -quality 60 before the final save to JPEG. Or even lower!
