COMMAND LINE DEFINITIONS/RESOURCES

Post by scarlet »

HIYA:

I HAVE ALWAYS USED IM COMMAND LINE IN ORDER TO GET DEFINITIONS OF FUNCTIONS/EFFECTS.
THE WRITE-UPS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN IN THE STUDIO ITSELF.

HOWEVER, NOW WHEN I CLICK ON A SPECIFIC CATEGORY, IE. COLORING, QUANTIZING, ETC. , AFTER A VERY LONG LOAD TIME, I FINALLY GET TO THE PAGE I GET A MESSAGE "ITEM TOO LARGE TO BE SEEN"

I KNOW YOU HAVE ADDED QUITE A FEW NEW THINGS IN THE PAST YEAR.
COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM?
WHERE DOES ONE GO NOW TO GET THE DEFINITION/EXPLANATION OF HOW SOMETHING WORKS?

**AM ON WEBTV

THANK YOU,

SORRY, I JUST REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT BEING SPECIFIC ENOUGH.

THE LINKS THAT YOU GAVE ME ABOVE WORKED.

HOWEVER, EVERYTIME I GOT TO THEM, WHERE THE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS/EFFECTS ARE BROKEN DOWN TO CLICK ON,
(BTW, IT ALSO SAYS "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" AT THE TOP OF EACH SECTION)

NO MATTER WHAT I CLICKED ON
"COMPOSE", "QUANTIZE", ETC.
THE PAGE WOULD JUST KEEP LOADING. SOMETIMES I WOULD GET LOCKED OUT AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, SOMETIMES I WOULD ACTUALLY GET TO SOME OTHER DESTINATION, AM ASSUMING WHAT I CLICKED ON, AND KEPT GETTING A MESSAGE

"THERE IS TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE TO BE SEEN"

I WENT THROUGH THOSE LINKS YOU POSTED ABOVE FOR HOURS, CLICK ON EVERYTHING. I LOOKED AT OTHER PEOPLE'S SCRIPTS, YOU NAME IT
HAD NO PROBLEM EXCEPT I AM ON WEBTV PLUS DO NOT KNOW PHP CODING BUT I WANTED TO SEE IF THEY DID WORK FOR ME AND INDEED THEY DID.

THE ONLY PLACE I COULD NOT ACCESS AND THE ONLY PLACE I WANT TO ACCESS WAS THE PAGE UNDER "USAGE"
WHERE EVERYTHING HAS AN INDIVIDUAL LINK ON IT FOR AN INDIVIDUAL EXPLANATION.

I AM LOOKING FOR A COUPLE OF THINGS. IF AVAILABLE, WRITE-UPS ON VARIOUS "DISTORT" EFFECTS AND ALSO "POLARIZE" AND WHAT ALL CAN BE DONE WITH IT.

ARE YOU ON WEBTV AND CAN ACCESS IT?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP...

try

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/distorts/index.html

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/distor ... html#polar
http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/distor ... ml#depolar

None of these pages say Under Construction anywhere that I can see. Certainly not everywhere? So it might have something to do with your use of WebTV.

These pages are very long and have lots of images that I believe get generated on the fly from the commands they demonstrate. So the page can take a while to fill in the images or possibly display if WebTV won't display until it is all done. WebTV may have a page length limit or just time out if it is taking too long.

Sorry not many people use WebTV any more as far as I know. So I am not sure what the issue might be with just getting to these sections. I am not sure if WebTV is compatible with IM. I will defer to the IM experts.

You will need to hear from Anthony about the compatibility of his pages above with WebTV. He gets on line later today.

HIYA:

I'M SORRY..

I COULD NOT GET INTO ANY OF THOSE PAGES EITHER. THEY JUST KEEP LOADING AND LOADING.....

HERE IS THE PAGE THAT I USUALLY USE TO LOOK UP SPECIFIC EFFECTS AND SAYS "UNDER CONSTRUCTION"
ABOVE EVERY TABLE.

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/reference.html

I CAN ALLOCATE THAT PAGE BUT NONE OF THE INDIVIDUAL TOPICS LISTED.
SAME THING HAPPENS.

I NOTICED IN MY FAV FOLDER THAT THE PAGES I HAVE SAVED FROM MAGICK INFO USUALLY HAS A BLUE LOGO SHOWING UP, LOCATED IN THE BODY TAG. HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT. IT IS NOW ALL BLACK AND CANNOT BE ACCESSED FROM FAV FOLDER.

I WROTE ANTHONY THE OTHER DAY BUT HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM.

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR HELP. I DON'T KNOW WHERE ELSE TO TURN TO IN ORDER TO GET DEFINITIONS ON THESE.

That is because this page is still a work in progress as not all IM functions are listed. This is because Anthony does not have an example, yet, for every IM function. So it will say "under construction"

All these links lead to pages on the other pages that I provided links. You really have only two choices:

1) http://www.imagemagick.org/script/comma ... ptions.php
which is a very long page with links at the top, which go to sections below this. This page may be too long for WebTV to display?

Someday, someone might break into multiple pages. But this is not likely to happen soon.

2) Anthony's Example Pages which start at http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/
this page is not very long, but each link at the top leads to a page that may be rather long and has many images that are created on the fly. These pages may be too long or the time it takes to display the images may be too long for WebTV.

You will need to hear back from Anthony about whether his pages are compatible with WebTV.

P.S. Third option is to buy one of the two books about IM, but they are rather old. See http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php

Why are you using WebTV? Do you have the WebTV hardware and no computer? Perhaps you need to contact Microsoft, who now provides the WebTV service about this issue as all these pages display just fine on a computer browser such as IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.

I HAD A FRIEND OF MINE WHO ALSO HAS WEBTV LOOK UP ON HERS AND SHE CAN ACCESS JUST FINE.

I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO UNTIL RECENTLY.

I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO CALL WEBTV BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY?

I CANNOT AFFORD A PUTER AND ALL THE GADGETS THAT GO WITH IT.
PLUS I AM DISABLED AND PRETTY MUCH STUCK IN BED RIGHT NOW SO WEBTV IS ALL I CAN REALLY USE.
;-((((

IT IS A NIGHTMARE.
BUT, I GUESS, SOMETIMES WE DON'T HAVE CHOICES.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME
I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME
THIS IS IMPORTANT

Scarlet,

Sorry to hear about your situation and continue inaccessibility to IM. If your friend can get these pages on WebTV, then it may not be an issue with Microsoft. It has been so long since I tried WebTV (in the very first days it was available) that I don't recall much about it and cannot find the app on my computer any longer.

Are you getting access to the Internet via WebTV from any provider (in particular whomever hosts your web site, namely piratevoyager.com)? If so, then contact them first. It sounds like a slow connection and a time-out due to the long pages that need to be displayed.

How does your friend get Internet access? Is it the same provider, if that is relevant? Is your WebTV setup the same as your friend's? What might be different? That may give you a clue to where the issue is.

FRED:

I JUST GOT ONLINE AND TRIED IT AGAIN.

I WAS ABLE TO ACCESS THIS URL
http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/distorts/index.html

BUT NOT WAS IS ON THE "Usage" URL

WHEN I TRIED,,,THE PAGE CAME UP WITH THE LIST OF OPTIONS
AND WHEN I CLICKED ON AN OPTION, EVERYTIME, I FIRST GOT "PAGE TOO BIG TO BE SEEN" THEN LOCKED OUT AND HAD TO RE-SIGN IN

I WILL HAVE TO CALL WEBTV AND SEE IF THEY CAN PUT ME ON A DIFFERENT LINE

I AM SORRY IF I HAVE WASTED YOUR TIME
I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP

I THOUGHT IF I SUBSTITUTED THE EFFECT IN YOUR URL
http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/distorts/index.html
MAYBE I COULD ACCESS IT THAT WAY BUT THEY ARE NOT NAMED AS THEY ARE IN IMAGE MAGICK.

IE. POSTERIZE DOES NOT= POSTERIZE IN THE URL

Don't worry about it. It is not a waste of my time.

Posterize is not under distort.

try:

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/reference.html

or go directly to

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/quantize/#posterize

If only the latter works, let me know what topics you want and I can try to find them for you until you get in touch with Microsoft.

If the latter does not work, try

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/quanti ... #posterize

perhaps your WebTV does not like having #posterize without a index.html along with it to tell it what the file name is?

If that works, and you can find the link, you can modify it to put index.html between the last / and the #whatever. That would indicate that Anthony took a shortcut that does not work for WebTV and WebTV always then needs index.html#whatever rather than just #whatever.
