vBulletin use of IM.

I am building a site which starts out with vBulletin forum. In it, it directs me to consider using IM. What I am trying figure out is, how? I am not as good at doing things on my host as I am not into Apache or anything Uniz based. I have taken courses, but nothing in the way of much experince. I would like to use the software I can get for the purpose of my site and the members I am serving. If there is a tutorial or some help file somewhere, could you point me to them? I cannot spend too much time dredging around to get to this infomation. Also, I am open for paid advice and help in establishing IM as the graphics processor for my vBulletin, and quite possibly other places on my site.

I know it is probably easy to find, I just need a little direction. Sorry for the noobiness. Iam not such a noob, just all this new stuff. I have extensive computer knowledge, but evidently one cannot know everything.
