Another guide is in IM examples, though it is more about generating it from RPMs

Below that is a pointer to a Ubuntu linux guide for installing you own 'local' copy (outside normal package managed install.
I am still looking for a guide to creating DEB packages of IM for Debian, and Ubuntu Linux Machines.
