Convert does not work

I have version imagemagick 6.6.0, doing a apt-get upgrade imagemagick also apt-get install ghostscript

Im I doing it right to get the latest version?

That will not be the very latest. The various Linux repos tend to be a little behind.

I do not have any (or know of any) instructions for DIY a "deb" package of IM.
(Does anyone know how to build a DEB ImageMagick package?)

I do have instructions for personal installs and RPM packages, which I use
3 to 4 times a week on my Fedora Linus system.
