Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref

What is the meaning of this error?

Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Error: Couldn't read xref table

Is there a problem in the file itself or the package? I am using ImageMagick version 6.6.4-10
Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you!
