Open Prepress Interface (OPI) with ImageMagick?

Is there a way to create low res images with OPI comments from hi res EPS images when using ImageMagick and Ghostscript? We use ImageMagick to create low res thumbnails on the website, but one step further would be adding these text comments in the meta data. If we could get OPI comments added to the conversion process, we could send low res images to the end user to place in Acrobat Files, then we could swap out the images with hi res originals. This keeps us from sending hi res graphics over the Internet and still be able to create hi res prints/PDFs.

Any suggestions? I did a search for OPI and imagemagick, but nothing turned up. Maybe this technique exists by another name?
