Indic language support for Imagemagick

Indic language support for Imagemagick

Imagemagick shows Indic languages.
However the font rendering has been poor, and there is overlap of characters.
My questions are,
  • Does IM support UTF-8?
  • What has to be done to make font rendering correct?
  • Any active development going on on this?
