Unfortunately we cannot reproduce the problem. ImageMagick builds properly under Mac OS X Leopard for us and a 'make check' passes all the tests.

1) I am on Tiger, not Leopard. I did the make -k -i clean, but IM 6.4.0-8 still would not build without errors at the end of the make. I even tried the default ./configure, but the same errors.
What can I provide to help debug this on my end ? What was changed between 6.4.0-7 and 6.4.0-8? (Sorry if I am poking questions at things that you already considered!) IM 6.4.0-7 compiles just fine.
2) On the other topic regarding the FFT hanging on IM 6.4.0-7, did the DEBUG statements tell you anything helpful?
Might these two problems somehow be connected (via a ghostscript issue - see Sean's comments earlier in this topic)
