Its in your hands Fred. If you want them to be readily available so you can refer to them in your forum postings and scripts, feel free to reference them in the docs.

I do include these images in the IM Examples, whcih is already on the IM Web site, as reference images used in photo processing examples.

The same goes for peppers, mandrill and zelda (zelda_dark)
Index: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/img_photos/
Fancy Index: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/img_photos/INDEX.html
(click on the photo to see the image), but only the images with a 'orig.png' are shown in the fancy index.

Other images are from the Kodak Sample Photos, and other free for use test image sources.
See README file http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/img_photos/README
Which includes any modifications (very little) that was made.

Anthony,

What do you suggest then with regard to having other images available from the www.imagemagick.org web site?

Since the Kodak images are license free should we take one or two (girl with red hat and parrots) and make them available at full or reduced resolution as hats: and parrots: in IM?

Or should I just take those and put them into the reference directory at full resolution?

Or should I just reference your directories from the IM page at http://www.imagemagick.org/script/formats.php in a new section without putting links to the few images I uploaded and just remove mine (zelda(dark), lena, mandril, peppers) from the references directory.

Seems like I opened a can of worms. All I was trying to do was add a few more internal images at some small size for command and script test purposes that could be easily used and shown on the forum.

Yes I understand. A couple more 'built-ins' for variety in test images that are available to others.
The problem is WHAT test images?

Large images should not be used for built-ins, as the image data is actually part of the core library.
And then you have copyright issues, and once 'built-in' it should NEVER change.

On the other hand URL reference images can have new images added, and is not restricted to specific a source.

I only brought up the fact that many of the reference images I use is online and served from the IM website already. There location and names have not changed in years, though other images and be added, as well as smaller medium and or thumbnail images.

Surely we can find a few interesting images to add, such as those two Kodak images, which are not under license, if the Kodak page is accurate.

Seems that you have many images already and it does not seem appropriate to add them again to a new directory in IM. But there does not seem to be any links to your pages from www.imagemagick.org (or perhaps I miss it). These links could be added to a new "reference image" section on the formats page. I could add that. But some of your images in the fancy index are not the high resolution untouched ones, e.g zelda-dark. And the other index page shows no images. It would be nice to have two pages with pictures - one containing untouched originals and the other containing any processed files that could be smaller. Both should identify the size of the image. What do you think?

The Usage pages are linked from the top level page in the left column "usage"
The top level usage page has links at the bottom of the main index page.

Magick,

It would appear that Anthony has all the images that I uploaded to the reference directory in his image index pages. So you can remove the reference directory if you want. I may try to put a link to Anthony's images index pages on the formats page and leave it at that until we can find some appropriate and not copyrighted other images to add to the IM internal ones. As Anthony suggests, these probably should be reasonably small images of size either 128x128 or 256x256 for simple testing of IM commands.
