Reduce image resolution in PDF

I need to reduce the resolution on images in a PDF, without changing anything in the PDF itself.
Is that possible with ImageMagick?

normally a PDF does not have a fixed resolution or density. However a raster image that is contained within a PDF could have a 'ideal resolution' or density.
