color change while converting PDF to image

Post by shuchisethi »

I have landed into a great Problem,
I am using ImageMagick 5.5.6 to convert PDF to image
using - "convert -density 300X300 Glacier.pdf Glacier[%d].jpg ". Later I am resizing them.
Now my problem is that the color of images have changes drastically, If the sea is of light blue in PDF, it has become dark blue in images.

Original image of PDF can be seen at - Image, while the same one created through ImageMagick can be seen at - Image

Please help me resolve the isssue asap

I am not an expert on PDF conversion. But I can only offer a few suggestions.

1) Your IM version is very old. Can you update it? Currently IM is at 6.4.1-1

2) Search the archives for posts about converting PDFs. There may be some suggestions there. Are your PDFs RGB or CMYK. If the latter, you can try to change to RGB first. For example see viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11027&hilit=pdf+convert

3) Try convert inputimage options outputimage I believe that is the correct syntax under most situations for the use of convert.

4) I have seen posts about bad profiles. Have you looked into any profiles with your PDF and/or the use of other profiles. Search the forums.

Sorry I cannot be of more help. Hopefully Anthony or Magick will eventually respond. I am sure they are busy and just have not had time to get to the forums.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried on ImageMagick 6.2.8 , and read most of the posts regarding PDF conversion.
On one I found out the solution and used " convert -density 300 Outer_Barrier.pdf +profile '*' -profile USWebCoatedSWOP.icc -profile sRGB.icm Outer_Barrier.jpg" to convert from PDF to jpeg now.
Colors and text are wonderful, but the problem is of time. It takes almost half an hour to convert a 600 KB file.
Please help...
Am I going wrong somewhere??

Thanks & Regards
-Shuchi

Please help...........I am still into trouble, now using the same command to convert a 700Kb PDF to jpeg, at 200 dpi, but it is taking almost 6 minutes for conversion and at 300 dpi it is taking 20 minutes...and we will be converting magazines of almost 200 pages...

If conversion time is the only problem, then overhead would be your concern. Can you optimize the PDF's before hand with a batch process from Photoshop or Acrobat? If IM is not causing you problems then I'd say nothing short of either streamlining the process, optimizing the input before IM resizing is done, or getting a faster computer will help.
