MIFF vs PFM question regarding IM 6.4.1-4 Q16 HDRI

I just downloaded and installed IM 6.4.1-4 Q16 HDRI Mac OSX TIGER and was checking to see if the changes we discussed for handling MIFF in HDRI were working. They do seem to work, but I am getting for the FFT to mag/phase for the phase image
PFM:
Depth: 32/16-bit
Channel depth:
gray: 16-bit
Channel statistics:
gray:
min: -3.12932 (-4.77504e-05)
max: 3.12932 (4.77504e-05)
mean: 1.81636e-05 (2.77158e-10)
standard deviation: 1.59061 (2.42712e-05)
MIFF:
Depth: 64/16-bit
Channel depth:
gray: 16-bit
Channel statistics:
gray:
min: -3.12932 (-4.77504e-05)
max: 3.12932 (4.77504e-05)
mean: 1.81635e-05 (2.77158e-10)
standard deviation: 1.59061 (2.42712e-05)
Note the Depth for MIFF is 64/16-bit vs PFM is 32/16-bit. Is this 64/16-bit MIFF intended or a new feature for MIFF?
When I try to save the FFT to TIFF and get the verbose info for the phase image, I get
Depth: 64/16-bit
Channel depth:
gray: 16-bit
Channel statistics:
gray:
min: -1.34399e+10 (-205080)
max: 1.34399e+10 (205080)
mean: 78009.8 (1.19035)
standard deviation: 6.83143e+09 (104241)
Here the depth also is 64/16-bit, but the min and max values are not correct, in fact way off. Values should be the same as above for PFM and MIFF, i.e. between -pi and +pi. Is the IM TIFF format capable of handling floats properly in HDRI?
Note I am just curious about the TIFF here as we can get by with PFM and now also MIFF. But I thought I would inquire in case there is a bug.
