Consultant needed for changing photo bgrd to pure white

I have about 1,000 images that I need to programmatically change the background to pure white.

I would like a solution that is available in shell script and ideally also in PHP for a web based tools.

Can you post or PM a handful of sample images? It would drastically narrow down whether this is a major job or quick script.
