Error converting tiff

Hello,

I've currently got a TIFF image. When I convert using

Code: Select all

convert image.tiff image.jpg
I get the correct image.
When I convert using

Code: Select all

convert image.tiff image.png
I get an image with only part of the data. It looks like there were multiple layers but converting to png only takes one layer. The above only generates one file though and appending [0] after input file doesn't change anything.

Anyone know where the issue could come from?

What version of IM? What platform? Can you supply an example has this problem?

Your image is colorspace=CMYK and PNG does not support that. So you need to convert to sRGB. There is a color profile in the meta data,

Profile-icc: 1547948 bytes
ISOcoated_v2_330

For best result, you should use that profile and an sRGB second profile to do the conversion. Or simply convert to sRGB

convert image.tiff -colorspace sRGB image.png

or

convert image.tiff -profile path2/ ISOcoated_v2_330.icc -profile path2/sRGB.icc image.png

I get an image with only part of the data. It looks like there were multiple layers but converting to png only takes one layer.
In addition to fmw's comment, I see the file also has a clipping path. I'm not familiar with clipping paths, but this might be the cause of "only part of the data".

The IM command "+clip-path" might disable the clipping. See http://www.imagemagick.org/script/comma ... #clip-path

Thanks for taking the time to help me guys.

I've tried both with profiles/colorspaces and with +clip (I couldn't figure out how to get +clip-path to work) and nothing worked.

Hi again guys. You ended up putting me on the right track,

gives me the expected output. can anyone explain what this does?

And more importantly, I batch process plenty of images from various origines and filetypes. If I add this to the command do you know if I might get some unexpected results on other file types? (ie: some sort of regression on psd or such?)

Jpg does not support transparency. So when you convert to jpg, any transparency is removed. PNG supports transparency and so if you do not want it in your png image you have to disable it. Using -alpha opaque sets the transparency to opaque. A better way would be -alpha off. That way, you don't carry an opaque transparency channel.
