Paid Gig: Background Removal Module

I'm new here to the org so forgive me for whatever etiquette I am certainly mauling! Help me find this talented person! Please only refer yourself or someone that you have worked with.
A product launching shortly is in IMMEDIATE need of a module to plug in to our user-facing process in removing backgrounds from user photos. There is little to no front-end user exposure to the module... just an automated (as much as possible) backend/server-side... PHP with a Drupal build. It will be similar to Back Ground Burner in action and user engagement.

Finding the right person could lead to a much, much bigger and rewarding project, perhaps full-time or a darn good chunk of it. We also want to give these modules back to the community if they have ancillary applications.
I'm in Austin but understand I'll need to cast a wide net to find the right person.
Thanks for your referrals!

Thanks to Fred for some great insights into our background removal needs. He shows us some promising tests with some sample frames I sent him. I understand much better the complexities of making it work, and further, the difficulties of integrating a step of user involvement if necessary.
Fred believes that there may be a couple of you IM folks out there that might be able to help us come up with a comprehensive plan that
can work. The Background Burner API
http://www.bonanza.com/blog/main/Background_Burner_API
works perfectly at removing the backgrounds but the problem is that it cannot (for some unknown reason) resize/repo the results.
Please let us know if any of you can share in coming up with a plan that I will happily pay to implement.
Thanks,
Kirk

Here is an interesting site I found a few years ago:

I think to automate this sort of action you need some decent backgrounds in the first place.
Perhaps you can use the BackgroundBurner API and then pass the image onto Imagemagick to do the rest of your work.

The Background Burner looks comprehensive and effective. It took them about a year to create. They don't say how many people, perhaps only one person. If you have only a million images to convert, you could use that for $10,000 or less, which is a lot less than one person for one year. And you could get it now, which satisfies your "IMMEDIATE" need. If the only drawback is an inability to resize, that should be easy to overcome.

They both remind me of the Gimp foreground select tool which was based on a stand alone program or plugin that I can not remember the name of at the moment.

I think you mean SIOX. See
http://www.siox.org/. It is in GIMP (see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_FWoD82U_o), Inkscape and ImageJ as well as some open source code at Github.
