I have been seeing a long delay (5 to 15 seconds) when using show: for it to return control to the terminal. (The image displays fast.) This has been happening on my Mac OSX Snow Leopard for a number of releases. It seems to have started around IM 6.9.4.0. That is it is very fast returning control at and before 6.9.3.9, but is slow for 6.9.4.1 and all subsequent releases. I have not tested 6.9.4.0.

Thanks for the problem report. We can reproduce it and will have a patch to fix it in GIT master branch @ https://github.com/ImageMagick/ImageMagick later today. The patch will be available in the beta releases of ImageMagick @ http://www.imagemagick.org/download/beta/ by sometime tomorrow.
