cropping and processing signature from a signed box of scanned document

Hello, this is my first post…

I work at a university and was wondering if anyone has examples of where they have a standardized document that people print off, fill out and sign a signature form where imageMagick is then used to enhance the contrast and crop out the signature.

I was thinking to have such a file with a thick bordered signature box and have imageMagick do just that.

I'm having my developers here tell me that it's too hard to do and too many variables to account for but from my ancient memory of this library, it could do this even a decade ago.

I'm just wondering if someone out there does this and I can go back to my developers and show them it is possible… and easy.

Cheers, skippingrock.

Please, always provide your IM version and platform when asking questions, since syntax may differ. Also provide your exact command line and if possible example images.
