ImageMagick does not expand subdirectories. You will need to write a shell script or a PerlMagick script to handle subdirectories with ImageMagick.

We cannot reproduce the problem you posted. Which version of ImageMagick are you using? We're using ImageMagick 6.2.7-5, the current release.
