The libTiff standard utility tiffinfo tells if an image is tiled or striped.

$ tiffinfo black_200.tif
Image Width: 200 Image Length: 200
Rows/Strip: 200

tiffinfo dcua_015.000m.tif
Image Width: 5400 Image Length: 4100
Tile Width: 256 Tile Length: 256
