Composite will only handle two, count them, two, images.

Gif animations contain a whole sequence of lots of images. The result
only two of those images are meged and the rest just ignored.

See IM Examples on adding a background to GIF animations

(Also known as removing transparency from an animations)

Before asking further questions I suggest you read BOTH GIF animation pages, especially those on GIF optimization. More Examples are comming, or can be supplied by interested IM users.

At the moment however I am working on a related issue of color reduction.
