updating cygwin version of im

Post by BabaG »

just installed cygwin and having problems. was working with the
current version of im under wxp home but needed to script some
things that, i was told, cygwin would more easily allow for.
problem is, version of im that came with cygwin doesn't seem to be
current as i get an error with the -path option for mogrify.

this all leads me to think i need to update the cygwin/im installation.

i have no idea how to do this. downloaded the binary on the im site
that indicates it's for cygwin. followed the instructions but they didn't
work with cygwin. one specific example is that there is a -xf in the
site's instructions but i get an error that -x is not an option with my
gzip installation. needless to say, this stops me in my tracks.

are there any extremely detailed instructions anywhere for the
extremely simpleminded among us? i'm trapped without this; i
can run im without cygwin but can't script what i need, i can run
a script with cygwin but can't use the im options i need.

i'm trying to crop and resize on network drives while retaining
the original filenames through the processing. another component
here is that i'm trying to catch new files as soon as they arrive on
the network drive, crop, resize, then save with the original filename.
the time element of catching and processing each new frame as
it arrives without falling behind or getting ahead seemed to
suggest something more easily scripted through cygwin than a
windows batch file. i'd love to know if this is not correct and an
alternative method if anyone knows one.

thanks for any suggestions,
BabaG
