I downloaded the Tcl interface. The ./configure pass blew up on the indicated line.

checking system version (for dynamic loading)... ./configure: line 27560: syntax error near unexpected token `('
./configure: line 27560: ` case `(ac_space=' '; set | grep ac_space) 2>&1` in'

Is there a simple fix for this?

You might be able to rebuild the configure script with the automake/autoconf tools, however, it is probably best to post a bug report to the TclMagick mailing list. We did not write nor do we maintain TclMagick so we can't help further.
